Perfectly, Wonderfully Average

I've thought about starting a blog for a long time. I never thought anyone would really want to read about my life, I guess. Which is maybe silly, because I sure do enjoy reading about other peoples' lives. I love to dig through blogs almost as much as I love to dig into a Francine Rivers novel. (Which is a LOT). Redeeming Love...hold me.

I decided that I would start this blog today while I was at work. It's almost 10 pm now, the baby is sleeping, and my Jimi is working on his resume to apply for grad school. He works his tush off to provide for us and going to grad school is the next step toward becoming a licensed architect. I am beyond blessed. Today is a normal, average day, but I wanted to share something really wonderful that happened once on a very average day.

This picture isn't from that day, but dang, my hubby is handsome.

Jimi and I got engaged and married within about 5 months. It was a crazy time (my poor mother!) but we knew that God had something to accomplish with us as husband and wife and we didn't want to be apart a minute longer. We got engaged in March, and then I didn't see my Florida boy until May. (I'll tell the whole story of how we met, etc. one of these days). When we got engaged, Jimi hadn't had time to pick out a ring yet. (Another great story! Coming soon!) And so designed one for me. He had it shipped to Iowa where we were both living at my parent's house until the wedding. (Poor Jimi lived in a tiny hallway in the basement. He was seriously Harry Potter. Such a good sport, that one.)

It was kind of a below-average (poopy) day if I remember right. I think I was maybe even a little bit mad at him. He asked me to go for a walk, and I remember thinking "I don't feel like it." But I did. I followed my future husband to the arboretum down the street and we sat on a bench. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a ring. MY ring. The ring he designed just for me. He said that because today was just average, he wanted to give me this. Extraordinary days are commemorated. An average day, though, it too deserves to be celebrated. Our life would be full of average days, but we could celebrate each average day as a blessing from the Lord. Our every day celebration would be our offering and our worship.

My husband is wise, my friends. And so today, on an average day, here is my little celebration.

Welcome to my blog. I do hope you enjoy it, but I guess even if no one ever reads this, it is a private party for me. To remember to celebrate the average of each day as the blessing it is.
